Generally, SiO2 protective film on the surface of heating elements will prevent from further oxidization due to the presence of oxygen.

B coating SiC heating elements

In the nitrogen atmosphere, nitrogen usually reacts with SiC above 1,400℃, producing silicon nitride, making elements brittle and shortening the service life.
